Sub:Finnish Government's Scholarships for Indian Nationals to Finland in the academic year 2008-2009.

Sir,

The Finnish Government has offered 10 Scholarships for Post-Graduate studies research & teaching at a higher education Institution or public research Institute in Finland.

To be eligible, the applicant must

  • Intend to pursue postgraduate studies as a visiting student, participate in a research project or teach at a higher education institution or public research in Finland; priority will be given to doctoral studies.
  • Have established contact with the Finnish receiving institution before applying
  • Have a letter of invitation from the academic supervisor in Finland, the invitation should also include a timetable.
  • Have earned at least a Master-level degree before applying.
  • Not have spent more than one year already at a Finnish higher education institution immediately before the intended scholarship period in Finland.
  • Be able to give proof of sufficient skills in speaking and writing the language needed in study/research.

The duration of scholarship is 3 months to 9 months. The academic year in Finland lasts from September to May. The autumn terms begins in September and end by 20 December. The spring term starts in January and ends in May.

The scholarship includes :

  • A monthly allowance of EUR 1000.

To and fro international air-fare and internal travel in India will be provided by University Grants Commission to the selected scholars.

A copy of the application form is enclosed. The following documents are required to be attached with the application:-

  • Completed & signed application form
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Copies of latest diplomas
  • Study/ research plan (1-2 pages)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Invitation from the academic supervisor in Finland
  • Language certificate (Finnish, Swedish, English).

You are requested to display the above offer prominently and brought to the notice of all concerned departments of the University and its affiliated colleges. Nomination of 2-3 suitable candidates in the prescribed proforma along with the required documents with recommendation of the head of the concerned departments University/Colleges and head of the university/Institute may be forwarded to University Grants Commission office on or before 5th March, 2008.
