Sir,

The Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Deptt. of Secondary and Higher Education, vide its letter No.F.9-17/93-U.3 dated 1st March, 2001 declared the Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation, Salem comprising of the following three institutions, as Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

1. Vinayaka Mission's Homoeopathy Medical College, Salem

2. Vinayaka Mission's Sankarachariyar Dental College, Salem

3. Vinayaka Mission's Annapoorna College of Nursing, Salem

The Vinayaka Mission Research Foundation had sent a proposal to the UGC to also include Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Medical College, Salem, which is presently an affiliated college of Dr. MGR Medical University, as a constituent unit of the Deemed to be University.

To examine the proposal of the Institute, the Chairman, UGC constituted an Expert Committee which visited the “The Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Medical College” Salem on 5th and 6th April, 2004 and physically verified all the facilities available there.

The Committee in its report recommended that the Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Medical College, Salem may be considered to be brought under the ambit of the Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation, Salem a Deemed to be University. The report of the Committee was placed before the Commission in its meeting held on 13.04.2004. The Commission decided as under :-

“The Commission considered the report of the Expert Committee constituted to examine the proposal of Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Medical College, Salem under Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation (Deemed University) and agreed with the recommendations of the Committee to include Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Medical College, Salem under the ambit of this deemed university. It was further decided that the matter be referred to the M/HRD with the recommendations of the Commission for further necessary action”.
