Promotion of Indian Higher Education Abroad (PIHEAD)

Letter Dated 20 April 2005 to Universities on SAP & NASFA 2005

Thank you for your interest in offering Study Abroad Programs (SAP) for students from the developed nations for promoting internationalization of Indian education. With a view to promote and position Indian universities/institutions as an attractive option under SAP, UGC is participating in NAFSA conference cum exposition at Seattle, USA from May 29-June 3, 2005. The Commission in its meeting held on March 2, 2005 has ratified the decision for participation. UGC has already booked an exhibit space in the exposition. Special Conference session with focus on India is also planned on June 3, 2005.

In case, you are interested in joining the delegation or nominating somebody on this delegation, kindly fill in the enclosed participation form and return it within 30th April, 2005. Further, you may kindly get the travel and hotel booking done at the earliest to avoid last minute rush. NAFSA has obtained special rates in certain hotels at Seattle. It may perhaps help if you get your hotel bookings done through them. All participants are required to get themselves registered. Registration procedures and deadlines are on the NAFSA website www.nafsa.org/seattle. Before sending the nomination, you may please see that the university is able to bear all expenses on participation in the event.

Meanwhile, you may have initiated process of developing your own publicity cum information material on SAP. As per experience last year, visitors normally do not carry bulky print material with them. It is advisable that all publicity material is in electronic format (for distribution) on small CDs - visiting card size with few print copies for display/ perusal. Kindly send us copies the publicity material (five copies only) within 10 May 2005.

Further, the UGC is developing a country brochure, audio visual presentation and developing display material for the booth. You may kindly send information in the format attached along with photographs and audio-visual clips if any for this within 5 May 2005.

Information of study abroad program (s) and participation in NAFSA conference 2005 is available in the PIHEAD section of the UGC website. We will also keep you updated about it through the website. May I, therefore, request you to visit the UGC website on regular basis. List of people (along with their contact information), who visited India Booth during NAFSA 2004 is also provided on the website. You may kindly get in touch with them to explore further possibilities.
