Recognition: The Govt. of India declared Sri Avinashilingam Home Science college for Women as a Deemed University. The College has been renamed as Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women and has completed sixteen years as a University and was the first women’s college to get this distinction.

Other Details: Sri Avinashilingam Home Science College for Women was established by patriot and educationist Dr. T.S. Avinashilingam in 1957 with 45 students. The growth of the Institution has been carefully nurtured to its current heights by the world renowned educationist and nutritionist Chancellor Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas . It is now the largest Institution in the Country for imparting Home Science Edcuation at all levels.

Infrastructure Facilities: Thiruchitrambalam Auditorium, Swami Vivekananda Centenary Auditorium, Six hostels, Extension to Nursery School, Research Building, Central Library Building, Children’s Library, Starting Annai Sarada Primary School, The University started courses B.Sc. Computer Science, M.Sc. Family and Community Science M.Phil and Ph.d Courses, full time in Home Science, Economics, Biochemistry and Mathematics, and Audia-video Communication centre.

Other ameneties: There are seven Faculties, , Home Science, Science, Humanities, Education, Business and Management, Engineering and Community Education and Entrepreneurship Development, each faculty functioning under its respective Dean. Since 1989-90 the University is offering two Major and Two Ancillaries for the under Graduate Degree Courses.

Co-curricular Activities: Students Union, Home Science, Science, Literary, Association and Planning Forum, Games, NCC, NSS are there for the students.

Student Support Services: The residential and non residential scholarships to Backward class and Most Backward class students A Branch of the Indian Bank and a Post office on the campus for the convenience of the students and staff.

Programs Offered: The University have providing Bachelor’s and Master Degree like B.A, B.Sc., B.T.M. B.P.E, B.Com, B.E, B.B.M, B.Sc. B.Ed, M.A, M.Sc. M.Com, M.Ed, MBA, MCA, M.Phill and Ph.D. The University have also providing some Diploma and Certificate courses in different fields.
