Location Details: The University is located at Guwahati, the capital city of Assam. It is the city of Goddess Kamakhya and is the seat of learning from the ancient times.

Recognition: (i) The University is accredited with 4 star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, (ii) UGC has identified the University for Promotion of Indian Indian Higher Education Abroad (PIHEAD).

Other Details: Established in 1948, the University is the oldest, largest and most respected in the northeastern region of India. It is the Centre of studies for the rich folk art and cultural traditions of the people of the northeastern region. The University has now established a satellite campus at Kokrajhar in Assam.

Infrastructure Facilities: The University has good infrastructure for postgraduate teaching and research comparable to any state-of-the aft institution. More than one fourth of the PG departments have strengthened their infrastructure through grants received under UGC’s SAP, COSIST and other programmes, DST’s FIST programme, etc. All the departments have a large number of projects sponsored by various government and non-government funding agencies.

Other Ameneties: The University has a huge Central Library, Laboratories, Counselling Centres, Women Studies Centre, School for Correspondence Courses, Academic Staff College, Indoor and Outdoor Stadiums, Auditorium, Seminar Complex, Gymnasium Hall, Hostels for Boys and Girls, Guest House, etc.

Co-curricular Activities: The University has excellent facilities for sports and games, cultural activities, National Service Schemes, Inter College Youth Festival and Sports competitions, joboriented programmes, etc.
