Other Details: Established in 1857 on the modal of London University, the University of Madras is one of the three oldest Universities in India with separate campuses for Humanities and Social sciences, Language, Sciences and Basic Medical Sciences.

Infrastructure Facilities: The University has internationally comparable infrastructure for Post graduate teaching and research as evidenced by its recognition by way of UGC’s SAP assistance for 12 departments and FIST funding for 14 departments respectively besides research projects sponsored by several agencies like Rockefeller Foundation, European Commission, Australia – India Council, Shastri Indo – Canadian Institute, etc.
