Location Details: Shillong, the capital city of the state of Meghalaya, is a hill station located at approximately 2000m height from sea level. The university’s main campus is spread over 1024 acres of picturesque, gently undulating and thickly wooded land. It has temperate climate and is a major tourist attraction. The state of Meghalya is full of natural lakes, reserve forests and waterfalls. Meghalaya is located in the north-eastern part of India, the latter being one of the biodiversity hotspots. India’s NE region is also rich in social and cultural diversity.
Recognition: North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is accredited by National Accreditation agency as a Four Star university.
Other Details: This University was established in 1973 by act of Parliament. It has produced a substantial body of first-rate research material in areas of science, environmental studies, biodiversity, understanding indigenous cultures and their historical, linguistic and philosophical links.
Infrastructure Facilities: The University has well equipped research labs, central instrumentation facilities, sophisticated instruments center, a university science instrumentation center. It also has its own Voice-Data Network and all sections of the university are linked. All labs have Internet connection. There is a well-equipped Central library in addition to departmental libraries.
Other ameneties: University buses for transport, cooperative store, guesthouse, playground, housing for faculty etc.
Co-curricular Activities: Sports, debates, outings and various activities under National Service Scheme.
Student Support Services: There is a Dean, students’ Welfare, a number of hostels for accommodation of students (separate for boys and girls), Student’s union etc. The university has a Central Admissions Committee for Foreign Students.
Programs Offered: Masters degree, M Phil and PhD programs in Sociology, Anthropology, history, Philosophy, Geography, Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Physics, Chemistry, Library & Information Science.
