Recognition: Central University in 1951 by an Act of Parliament which came into force on 14.05.1951.

Other Details: Visva-Bharati, located in the twin campuses of Santiniketan and Sriniketan, was founded by Gurudeva Rabindranath Tagore in December, 1921 with the motto where the world makes its home in a single nest. It emerged as a Central University in 1951 by an Act of Parliament. The Visva-Bharati retain a good deal of its original character and uniqueness. Even today having roots in the universal and humanistic vision of the poet.

Infrastructure Facilities: spread over 3000 hectares the University has its own eight Bhavanas (Institutes) at Santiniketan three institutes at Sriniketan and one Institute in Kolkata. In addition to this, the University also guides the functioning of Agro-Economis research Centre (A Research Centre sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture integrated with Visva-Bharati) and the Computer Centre, which functions as service centre for academic and administrative purpose. The University has a Central Library and twelve (12) Departmental/Sectional Libraries and computer facilities in the Computer Centre. The University undertakes research on Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Agriculture, Social Work, Music Dance & Drama, Arts and Crafts, Education etc. The University has many girls’ and boys’ hostels out of these one is meant for International Boys’ and another for the International Girls’ students. Recreational and sports facilities are also available.

Other Amenities : The University has a well equipped Hospital for treatment of students as well as staff and their families. The University has also two big play grounds – one at Sriniketan and the other at Santiniketan and a gymnasium.

Co-curriculur Activities: Physical Education programmes, National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) are there for the students. The students may participate in various functions and festivals.

Student Support Services: Merit Scholarship/Stipend etc., Research Fellowship, Book Bank, Study Tour, Students’ Aid Fund, Students’ Information and Counseling Centre, Students’ Placement Cell.
