Technology Description: The ion exchange membranes have been developed using epichlorohydrin, aniline, 4-vinyl pyridine resulting in low cost and better performance than the commercially available membranes. The commercial anion exchange membranes are based on styrenedivinybenzene and fluorine nomers and have disadvantages in processing because of use of carcinogenic chloromethylmethyl This development has application in industries like acid production, demineralization of fruit juice, demineralization of cheese whey, recovery of fermentation products etc. The competitive advantages are (i) The product is ecofriendly with minimum toxicity to living systems (ii) The production cost of membranes is very low and it is easy to produce.
