Production of Thermostable Alkaline Protease by Alkaliphilic Bacteria

Technology Description: The technology is the process for the production of an industrially important enzyme protease. Alkaliphilic bacteria isolated from alkaline lake of Lonar were grown in nutrient media containing different carbon and nitrogen sources and incubated for 48Hrs at ambient temperatures at pH 10.0 under shake culture conditions. The precipitated enzyme was tested for stability at high temperature, alkaline pH and in presence of detergent.The application areas are in detergents, tanning, baking, dairy and food industry. The competitive advantages are: (i) The micro-organisms used for production of the enzyme are alkaliphilic and hence controlling the pH of the production medium eliminates the chances of contamination of nutrient media (ii) The enzyme is both alkali stable and thermo stable.
